“We decided to create our digital artefact in the form of a children’s poem. We made illustrations for each stanza in the style of child-like drawing in order to convey that the poem is told through the eyes of a child. During our presentation to the academic panel, the feedback we received reinforced our idea of creating a children’s poem due to the ability to convey a moral message, arguably the most important part of our artefact. Through our artefact we want to communicate the idea that there are negative impacts of gender specific toys, more broadly gender stereotypes. This is due to their potential to be mentally harmful to children and to influence their lifelong values. Because of this, we believe advertisements and toys should be aimed at all children not a specific gender in order to hopefully change societal norms.”
